Overview

The Vice President of Strategic Communications will oversee the development and implementation of an integrated approach to strategic communications aimed at enhancing brand awareness, positioning, and messaging to support organizational objectives. 

Responsibilities

  • Brand Strategy and Content Development:

- Leading the development, management, and evaluation of the organization's brand strategy and content creation to engage both external and internal stakeholders 

- Regularly assessing brand visibility, effectiveness, and consistency, and devising strategies to address challenges and adapt communications strategies as needed.

- Collaborating with technical leaders to develop targeted marketing campaigns.

 

  • Media Relations and Crisis Communications:

- Developing and implementing a media relations strategy to promote Global Communities' work to various media outlets.

- Creating strategies to minimize negative press and managing negative stories if they arise, including advising executive leadership on media management.

- Serving as the primary spokesperson for Global Communities in media interactions and leading public responses during crises.

 

  • Public Engagement and Thought Leadership:

- Leading the development of Global Communities' public engagement strategy and overseeing relationship management with key stakeholders to support organizational growth.

- Engaging with congressional staffers, think tanks, advocacy groups, and other relevant entities to advance organizational goals.

- Overseeing the organization's participation in public events and collaborations with Global Programs leadership to highlight Global Communities' work.

  • Executive and Internal Communications:

- Providing support to the President and CEO with executive communications, including speeches, media interviews, and public appearances.

- Reviewing and approving internal communications materials to ensure alignment with organizational messaging and policies.

- Acting as the executive sponsor for the redesign of the organization's global intranet and overseeing internal training initiatives to enhance communications skills.

  • People and Budget Management:

- Leading and managing the communications team to achieve established goals and objectives.

- Overseeing the organization's communications budget and ensuring resources are allocated effectively and accountably.

- Supporting organizational efforts to adopt emerging technology and digital communications platforms.

  • Special Responsibilities:

- Willingness to undertake up to 10% domestic and/or international travel, including travel to high-risk locations.

Requirements

- Proven leadership experience in managing staff and projects, with the ability to navigate shifting priorities and deadlines.

- Strong strategic planning skills and the ability to translate strategy into tangible results.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.

- Familiarity with AI, emerging technology, and communication platforms.

- Demonstrated success in building and executing strategic marketing plans to diverse audiences.

- Experience in the international development sector or global media environment is preferred.

- A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 15 years of related work experience, or a master's degree and a minimum of 13 years of experience.

- At least 13 years of experience in communications, public affairs, or related fields, with five years of nonprofit and international development experience preferred.

- Previous supervisory experience is desirable.

- A strong commitment to the mission and values of Global Communities.
