Senior Telecommunications Engineer

Overview

Building, implementing, overseeing, and maintaining server infrastructure—both cloud-based and physical—will be the main responsibility of this role in order to support the client's phone systems and other vital services.

Responsibilities

• Construct, set up, and maintain physical servers in African colocation facilities. • Oversee cloud Virtual Private Servers (VPS) running Linux in high-availability settings. • Assure essential infrastructure's uptime, security, and integrity. • Set up and oversee phone systems, particularly Asterisk and FreeSwitch. • Configure and incorporate PSTN and SIP connections, as well as E1 interfaces for phone services. • By integrating and maintaining telephone systems on a regular basis, you can keep their performance and dependability high. • Create, set up, and oversee secure networks, such as VLANs and VPNs. • Maintain security best practices while optimising network scalability and performance. • To guarantee seamless operations, troubleshoot network problems and do root cause investigation. • Azure familiarity is advantageous when it comes to provisioning and managing AWS services like EC2, S3, and VPC. • Create and manage cloud-based solutions to increase scalability and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Education: A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a similar discipline. • Experience: At least five years working in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or related field with an emphasis on infrastructure management and phone systems. • Strong administrative experience with Linux and Unix. • Proficiency with SIP and PSTN/E1 integrations, as well as knowledge of phone systems (FreeSwitch, Asterisk). • Knowledgeable about network security best practices and networking technology (VPNs, VLANs). • Familiarity with containerization and cloud services (AWS, Azure). • Strong automated scripting abilities (e.g., Python, Bash). • A readiness to visit colocation facilities throughout Africa when required.
