Overview

The Finance and Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the bank's financial and operational functions, ensuring efficient daily operations, strong financial oversight, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role plays a vital part in supporting the bank's strategic objectives, driving growth, and maintaining financial stability, while also delivering excellent customer service to rural communities. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial management expertise, operational experience, and a comprehensive understanding of the banking industry, particularly in rural or regional settings.

Responsibilities

Financial Management • Supervise financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with regulatory standards. • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and the overall financial condition of the bank. • Perform financial analysis to guide strategic decision-making and identify cost-saving opportunities. • Establish and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure sound financial practices. • Ensure accurate and timely filing of taxes, statutory returns, and regulatory reports. • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure the bank’s financial records meet industry standards and regulations. Operations Management • Oversee day-to-day banking activities, including branch functions, back-office operations, and Mobile Money accounts, ensuring daily reconciliation of Momo Accounts. • Ensure efficient customer service operations, including handling transactions, account openings, loans, and other banking services. • Implement operational policies and procedures to enhance productivity and minimize operational risks. • Strengthen internal control systems to protect assets, prevent fraud, and mitigate risks. • Work with department heads to ensure smooth operations and compliance with both internal and external regulations. • Supervise and train the operations team to enhance skills, efficiency, and customer service standards. Strategic Planning and Growth • Contribute to the development and execution of the bank’s long-term strategic plan, focusing on financial sustainability and operational efficiency. • Identify opportunities to strengthen the bank’s market presence in rural areas by expanding product offerings, services, and outreach. • Monitor market trends, competition, and customer needs to recommend new products and services. • Ensure operations and financial processes align with the bank’s mission, vision, and values, with a focus on serving the local rural population. Compliance and Risk Management • Collaborate with the Risk and Compliance Manager to: o Ensure adherence to banking regulations, financial reporting requirements, and industry standards. o Monitor and manage risk exposure, including credit, operational, and financial risks, and ensure proper risk mitigation strategies. o Engage with regulatory bodies, auditors, and industry associations to stay informed about regulatory and legal changes. o Ensure the bank’s operations comply with environmental, health, and safety standards. Team Leadership and Collaboration • Lead, motivate, and manage the finance and operations team, promoting a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement. • Design training programs on financial and operational best practices, systems, and customer service standards. • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and professional development. • Work with senior management on strategic projects, initiatives, and performance improvement efforts. Supervisory Duties • Oversee the finance and operations team, providing guidance and support to meet departmental objectives. • Conduct performance reviews, offer feedback, and develop training programs for team members.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. • A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., ICAG, CPA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA) is highly desirable. Experience: • At least 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or operations management within the banking or financial services sector, including a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role. • Experience in a rural or community banking environment is preferred. • Proven success in managing financial and operational teams, driving improvements, and meeting operational goals.
