As a senior policy associate, your main role is to conduct research, analyze data, and provide recommendations to support policy development and implementation. You'll be responsible for monitoring legislative and regulatory changes, preparing policy briefs, and collaborating with stakeholders to gather input. Additionally, you'll assist in drafting policy documents, coordinating advocacy efforts, and representing the organization in meetings and conferences.
• Project development: Through desk research, event attendance, focused outreach, and scoping excursions, identify possible opportunities and collaborations for the use and generation of evidence. Maintain and strengthen current connections with important partners, and communicate with them frequently to find out what they need and where there may be room for cooperation. Encourage the matching of researchers in our network with government officials when appropriate so that randomized evaluations can be used to assess the effects of advances. • Project Implementation: Arrange, synchronize, and ultimately oversee policy initiatives and procedures directly. When required, work with affiliated researchers to offer governments’ technical help in order to promote the creation of evidence-based policies and programs in the pertinent field of expertise. Codifying the evidence, assisting with local adaptation by planning and carrying out data gathering activities, and co-designing interventions with the government will all be necessary to achieve this. For the project to be implemented successfully, gathering and coordinating stakeholders—including policy makers, affiliates, implementing partners, outside contractors, and team members—will also be essential. • Subject matter expertise: Retain up-to-date knowledge of the evidence and policy priorities in pertinent fields, and critically analyze the available data to pinpoint repeatable interventions and pertinent research topics. • Communications and events: Assist with creating content for many media channels (social media, blogs, publications from third parties, etc.) regarding girls' education evidence and policy initiatives in both French and English. Assist in writing donor reports. Together with the Operations team, prepare presentations and workshops for internal and external trainings and events. Manage the logistics and scheduling.
• A master's degree in economics, public policy, or a related social science with coursework in development economics, microeconomics, and econometrics and statistics. • Two years or more of appropriate job experience is required. • The capacity to establish and maintain connections with outside parties, such researchers or legislators. • Demonstrated ability to influence and manage difficult decision-making processes. • A spirit of entrepreneurship with a track record of spotting fresh, high-value chances and inspiring groups to work together on innovative project development. • Proficient in written and spoken English and French, especially in the area of effectively conveying technical research findings to policymakers in a non-technical way. • Demonstrated aptitude for forming alliances across organizational boundaries and/or for spotting and creating original ventures. • Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
