As a Unit Manager, this role supports the Manager in exercising leadership and management duties and reports to the Health and Safety Manager. In order to ensure a safe working environment for all employees, the chosen applicant will be expected to assist the health and safety manager in making sure that health and safety rules and procedures are implemented. In order to comply with Ghana's rules for occupational health and safety, the candidate would help build systems that include risk management techniques to prevent workplace and work-related illnesses, injuries, fatalities, and property losses.
• In order to achieve the Company's objective of preventing workplace and work-related diseases, injuries, and fatalities while adhering to Ghana's occupational health, safety, and environment legislation, support the creation and implementation of behavioral health and safety systems and processes within the site. • Provide technical and administrative guidance on all issues pertaining to health and safety, which are crucial to the goals and financial success of the entire business. • Take the lead in incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis of all incidents; then, put corrective measures in place to stop them from happening again. • Take the lead in developing and documenting standard operating procedures, risk assessment, and management for health and safety. • In order to arrange for workers' and contractors' safety training, communicate with the HR division. • Support for all health and safety initiatives to guarantee adherence to national and international laws, rules, and operational best practices. • Support the creation and implementation of the operation's emergency response plans, health and safety regulations, mortality risk management, and other work-related risk registries. • Ensuring that the operations' risk register is reviewed and updated whenever new elements are discovered or as conditions change. • Overseeing and controlling the uniform application of the company's governance guidelines and standards to contractors and site teams. • Making certain that all important contractor health and safety plans and procedures are reviewed and gap assessed in order to verify alignment and compliance with the company's standards and governance requirements. • Make ensuring that proper safety statistics are prepared and reported on time. • Provide line managers with guidance on the most important controls to use for each specific safety risk and encourage ongoing enhancement of these over time. • Please advice on suitable Safety KPI targets and/or thresholds for the relevant area of responsibility. • Give heads of departments (HODs) instructions on how to address tendencies found in the present Safety Management system.
• A postsecondary degree in occupational health and safety or a closely connected discipline. • It is necessary to have at least five years of experience managing health and safety in Ghana's mining sector. • Substantial background in contractor management, project execution, and mining environments. • It is necessary to be aware of the mining and processing unit procedures. • Familiarity with the mining regulations in Ghana, with an emphasis on the Health, Safety, and Technical Regulations, as well as the mandatory reporting requirements and certifications. • It is necessary to speak Fante or Akan fluently in addition to having fluency in English. • Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities. • Capacity to operate both individually and jointly with a team that is spread out geographically.
