Overview

In order to manage mining operations in a way that minimizes harm to the environment and maintains positive environmental footprints, it is necessary to make sure that all environmental rules and regulations are followed, to design and execute sustainability programs, and to pinpoint areas that require improvement. Together with supporting regular, proactive interactions to foster positive community relations and social acceptability, the job is also accountable for the front-line handling of community concerns.

Responsibilities

• Oversee adherence to worldwide best practices, regulatory obligations, and environmental standards of the organization. • Oversee the Environmental Management System's audits and remedial measures. • Oversee the Water, Air, Waste, and Closure Management plans' execution. • Oversee the ongoing reclamation initiative. • Create, organize, and carry out business rehabilitation initiatives and plans to guarantee that affected areas are restored in accordance with legal and corporate requirements. • Create and implement plans to guarantee that the mining sector complies with all applicable national and international laws, rules, and regulations on compensation, resettlement, and land acquisition. • Put together, become acquainted with, and put into practice Organization’s programs, policies, and management systems pertaining to stakeholder engagement. • In order to guarantee maximum involvement and collaboration in the organization's SRF initiatives, support the creation and execution of engagement strategies to improve and maintain excellent connections with communities, local government, and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). • Help Organization carry out the obligations stated in the SRF, Relationship, and Local Employment Agreements. • Oversee the Environment team to ensure cost containment, efficiency gains, and performance optimization. • Create and defend the yearly budget for sustainability and the environment.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the social sciences, environment sciences, or a comparable discipline. • Ten years or more of minimum experience managing sustainability and the environment while employed in the mining or allied industries. • Familiarity with an Environmental Management System (EMS) such as ISO14001. • Strong familiarity with environmental laws and regulations in Ghana. • Strong community and external involvement abilities. • Strong understanding of the concepts and procedures of social investment. • Robust resettlement and land acquisition policies and procedures. • Microsoft Office proficiency
